When Will ‘Contemporary Art’ End?
An unoriginal argument on a topic that no one seems to care about-
Can we be done with the term “Contemporary Art”? It's been used for too long.
The movement prior to Contemporary Art, called “Modern Art” (how original), was eventually retired so why do we have to drag on contemporary?
At its conception, MoMA was a museum with new/current work but eventually became a historical institution once the new, exciting, innovative term ‘Contemporary’ came in.
The term Contemporary is lazy. Let’s be finished with it by 2030?
This is the future.
Do we lay stagnant in the “contemporary” movement forever? It’s been more than fifty years! What happened to the art world after 1970? Have we just been going forward with no destination? We need a new destitnation-
An ongoing destination where past rules have been studied and broken, with intentions to create new rules and ideas to then be broken again for future generations to continue process.
This has less to do with artists and all to do with the art historians, curators, professors, and maybe the auction houses.
